I've grown up having people tell me I'm lazy, being told I need to get off my butt and crack on. But over the past few years, I really have learnt that rest isn't a luxury, we all need it.
At one point, the idea of doing everything at 60mph and running on three hours of sleep was glamourised and made to look like the only way you can succeed. It might be possible for some people (and hats off to you if you're one of those people who can manage it!), but for me when living with chronic illnesses and wanting to compete in sport, I need rest so that I can also be productive at times.
I feel like often 'lazy' is a term used at criticism. But here's the thing, you're not being lazy if...
-You've been really busy recently
-Your physical health requires it to recharge
-It benefits your mental health
-It allows you to spend time/catch up with family & friends
-It's an opportunity to take a break and slow the pace
So in short, you don't need to feel guilty for resting up and taking a break- especially when it benefits you. We're not machines, we're human beings that need, survive and thrive on rest....however when it comes to judgment?? It's not something we need in order to survive! It doesn't really help, and you never know what people are going through...but I've heard a good nap always helps things!-
Oh and thanks to my mum for catching me asleep...dribbling!
