Will my surgery be postponed? COVID-19

Feeling suitably grim and unfortunately with news to match!πŸ™ˆπŸ™

Me, mum, the gastro Dr and the colorectal surgeon all met today during wardround to speak. Due to the current climate our NHS has been dropped into with little notice, and the top priority being minimising risks for all patients, the decision has been made to postpone my surgery until it is actually SAFE to operate and recover.

In any other circumstances I would be filled with complete disappointment and upset- but given how scary things are getting and the lengths hospitals are already stretching to so that they can accommodate the public's needs, I know it's the best decision.

It's not ideal, however COVID-19 has provided a scenario where ideals are out of the question and necessities are the only priority. We haven't yet discussed plans for going home but I imagine that will be in the picture at some point in the near future, for now I'm still receiving TPN via my PICC line.

Thanks for everyone's support, it's upsetting but we're all in agreement that this is the right thing to do. I just hope that I don't deteriorate any faster than I already am when I go home with my health, weight, potassium levels and bloods- forget escaping vulnerability I'm being plunged back into it all over again.πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ™β€οΈ
