SPRINGTIME UPS AND DOWNS!May 9, 2016 1:24 PM February 2016-one thing I'm getting used to is the unexpected! Whenever I think my body is behaving it sneaks a surprise. The same goes for horses-whenever you think they're being good they get cheeky! Thankfully I've tested clear after 3 bladder infections through December to February but the antibiotics have played havoc with my tummy:( but it really shows me how important my riding is it to me as I just want to get out, ride and compete).Ive been feeling so awful I had my bloods done to check. The worry is that sometimes the phosphate I use through my stoma doesn't come out and it can affect levels in my body.Thankfully bloods are clear and we've ruled everything else out.My local hospital were great as they let me go straight onto the ward if Im having problems-very useful if it's a weekend and will run tests straight away:) Riding has been a real mixture and my recent training at Arena UK with the paras was incredible. So much understanding for all our problems and the impact it has on us trying to compete.Dame Emma Jane Brown has helped raise our profile and I even managed an article in our local paper which detailed my challenges.Ive had great feedback at school and they've even put my article on the board as we're doing a project about following your dreams-it was suggested by my friends. I would love to talk more to people about coping with a hidden disability.I recently spoke in front of an audience at a company with mums help and detailed my journey. We actually spoke for 25 minutes between us and used some pictures to show what I do and what Im dealing with(sport and health).Sometimes you can assume people know what you're dealing with and get frustrated when in fact they just don't understand your difficulty. I've been riding and competing a couple of different ponies thanks to a good friend. Its very apparent I need help with whatever I ride as they quickly suss my lower leg weakness resulting in a refusal sometimes.Just having a stick to back my leg weakness up isn't enough. Its helpful to have mum or a friend ride with a strong leg and keep the horse tuned up.Ive managed to compete again through February and was so happy to finish second at my last show after a few blips at previous ones. Can't wait for summer as everything seems less of a challenge when it's warmer!Mar 18, 2016 2:46 PM 2015 *WHAT A YEAR*Jan 18, 2016 10:03 PM ****Loving Milton****

I have so many different things happening it's quite a struggle but I'm loving it all.Back to school is the main one but luckily I've been allowed to drop a subject to help me cope.I'm actually ready before my brother which is incredible when I think of how I struggled last year and was often an hour late for school every day! Now I've had my ACE done I'm not in as much pain and can actually eat breakfast(which is unheard of).I'm managing to juggle riding quite well until I am late home, then it's difficult as my ACE is late and I get so exhausted.I know I have to try and rest now if I feel like this because if I just keep going I'm poorly for a few days. That's why it's easier at school now I've one less subject-I have some spare time to catch up.

I'm so lucky because a friend has let me start riding a horse in preparation for senior classes. She's a lovely mare called Milton and even though I look tiny on her she's great fun and will jump whatever stride I'm on.This helps me stay confident as I don't worry about her stopping. We will go to our first little show in October.

I went to ponyclub dressage training last week and found it really useful. It was good to discover different ways to use my body to keep my pony going forward and I've done lots of work without a saddle to help my balance.I borrow Roley(my brothers pony for this as it keeps it fun).Ponyclub have asked me to do a blog every month.Hopefully I can encourage others to compete whatever they're dealing with.

I have two hospital visits this week to check my ACE and legs and bladder problems.I am finding it hard and painful to get my tube in my ACE even though I have a stopper in all the time.

The good thing about feeling better is being able to go on a sleepover. My friends are stricter than my mum though! I reached for my phone and my friend told me I couldn't have it until I'd done my meds(catheter)-Mum thinks it's hilarious.

****Some exciting news****

Mum bought a 3 year old last month and it's possible in the long term future I may ride her.Mum will see what her temperament is like and how trainable she is(it's something my para training coach suggested as we can train her more for me).
